Daughter beats mother to death with cooking pan in US, admits crime calling 911

A 26-year-old woman in the US allegedly bludgeoned her mother to death with a cooking pan before promptly calling emergency services to confess her act. According to NBC News, police said that the assault stemmed from a domestic dispute at their residence on Westchester Avenue in Bronx, New York City.

The assailant, identified as Skydajah Patterson, called the emergency number 911 at around 4 am and told the operator, “I just killed my mom,” asserting that she acted in self-defence during the altercation. Responding officers arrived at the scene shortly to find Selma McLean, the 46-year-old victim, gravely injured with a visible wound to the back of her head, while Patterson still clutching the blood-stained kitchen pot. Authorities noted the absence of any other witnesses at the scene.

McLean succumbed to her injuries, and she was pronounced dead after being rushed to Lincoln Hospital.  Patterson, meanwhile was taken into custody, though authorities have yet to disclose the specific charges she will face.

The deceased had reportedly reached out to law enforcement on two prior occasions, alleging attacks by her daughter, Patterson, according to media outlet Metro.

In a conversation with the New York Post, Danaeyah Reynolds, McLean’s goddaughter, revealed Patterson’s recent discharge from a psychiatric ward in February. Reynolds expressed concern over Patterson’s deteriorating mental state, noting instances where she exhibited erratic behavior, including hearing voices and speaking in a man’s voice.

Furthermore, Reynolds recounted arriving at the scene and witnessing a distressing sight of blood, indicating the severity of the tragic event.

“When I got here I looked in and I could see blood on the couch. They say it was too late to resuscitate her. I opened the door and just saw blood,” she added.

McLean, a mother of three, lived with two of her daughters, including Patterson.
